Come on, do it for Earth Day — this Sunday, 4/22. :)

Here’s the deal. Everyone’s concerned about climate change, and even the big polluters can see the writing on the wall. They know new rules are coming, so they’re looking for a sneaky way out.

The biggest polluters are pushing for “grandfathered” permits that would pretty much let them slide, even though the new rules should make every polluter pay.

It’s incredibly unfair, and dumb too. But they could easily get their way, unless we stop them.

Join me in speaking up on Earth Day Network’s online petition, at:

After all, the sky belongs to all of us.

Thanks!

The Virginia Shooting is not a platform
by AngeloDeOrvaa — April 17, 2007I am absolutely disgusted and annoyed that people’s immediate reaction to the greatest shooting in U.S. history is to make it a platform for their personal beliefs. At no point did I see the need to use this as an example for some shaky argument on the way our society functions or the way it should be. Pro-gun, Anti-gun, pro-spanking, anti-spanking, pro-movie violence, anti-movie violence. The actual causes of this tragedy are about as clear as the public facts are: Not clear at all. We have no idea what this person’s motivation was, we have no idea who he really was, we have no idea what psychological or environmental issues he was having, we don’t know how he was actually treated as a kid. We know absolutely, positively nothing.

On this site, sites all over the net, and both liberal and conservative radio programs have users and jockeys take hold of this event to suit their individual purposes. This when the blood on the walls isn’t even dry.

I am not pretending I personally care about any of the people shot. No-one but the people effected can truly know what is happening, how they feel, and to truly feel sad and care about this shooting. I know nothing of their loss, I can know nothing of their loss, and I will not pretend to. However, people are not only pretending to but in the same breath re-working the sympathy of the American public in political directions favorable to their viewpoints.

I am not saying we shouldn’t take these sorts of events into consideration, I am not saying that we cannot take this and other tragedies as examples, speak on them, debate the reasons why they have happened and so on and so forth. However, when the facts have not even completely revealed themselves, when the dust has not even settled, when the dead have not even been buried. Perhaps we ought to be focusing on attending to the dead and suffering and give them some space and rest before we start pointing fingers and harassing the family’s of the deceased, the shooter’s family..etc.

I was watching on the television as the news swarmed the house belonging to the shooter’s parents in a desperate tenacious attempt to get a scoop. The reporters were grabbing anyone they could find, including the mailman, in an effort to find information on the family.

If this site is going to be standing against popular culture and society, perhaps its first task is to stop emulating it.

That’s my extremely pissed-off word on this subject.
