I Done Angered Mah Feminists With Mah Privileges!(Edited, I was really tired when I wrote this the first time)

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

Oh lord, time for my perennial battle with people I usually agree with. Of course, because I disagree with them I am an evil racist because I have a sense of humor and refuse to become pretentious and hypocritical: http://feministing.com/archives/007996.html

Bear in mind that 90% of what I said was just joking to annoy these oversensitive crazies. Though I do, of course, believe that the problem with Halloween Nooses is overblown and hypersensitive to a ridiculous degree. There are real problems people, this isn’t one of them.

To give you the basics (you can read the whole battle through the link): Some African Americans saw dark-skinned corpses hanging from nooses as Halloween decorations. A preacher went up and asked what they were about, the people told them that they were dark because people turn dark when they decay (they do) and it wasn’t meant to represent African Americans. The preacher did not accept this and said he would protest until they removed it, the people lightened the skin in order to appease them, the congregation still didn’t like it and continued to picket these people’s house until, under pressure from the protesters AND THE MAYOR finally took the decorations down.

I, of course, said this was a stupid overreaction.

They decided I cannot believe this because I am white and the protesters are black.

I said that’s tough, because they aren’t right.

They said I was being a spoiled, privileged-white male and I have to always change whatever it is I am doing if someone says it is racist and explains why (I am not joking, they actually maintain this….I HAVE TO DO IT OR ELSE I AM A JERK-RACIST).

I got annoyed and decided to mess with them while mixing in logic they will never, ever grasp.

Lather, Rinse, Repeat, add my own brand of irreverent, ironically-offensive humor and perhaps you’d all enjoy reading and maybe participating in the “debate”.

(Update: they found Crankyyellow and my bio and posted it on the thread, I was expecting some sort of barrage of angry comments but so far I have been disappointed).

Because I NEVER post my artwork

New Artwork by David Wolk

I’m always making things… but I never show them off or put them for sale. I’m just a strange little hermit that hordes away my creations. I’ve seriously got a flat file full of work that I’ve never shown anyone. I think it is a bad habit…

So I’m trying to break it.

Above is a new piece I made last night with Cate!

This is Stunning!

Stellaloella

Ah… Stellaloella

She came into the store two days ago. If you don’t know who she is let me give you a brief crash course:

Stellaloella makes beautiful pottery… that’s obvious. She had a wildly successful shop on Etsy.com (as many do). However, Stellaloella won the lottery; Etsy contacted her with a job opportunity and she has been working happily for them ever since! She works on the Etsy Community team (if you were interested)!

Stellaloella

Anyway… back to the store. She came in a few days ago and hung out a bit, took some photos and went on her merry way. I’m always glad and excited when a new friend stops by… so needless to say I was glad to see her again.

Then, today, I found some groovy photos on her Flickr page. I’ll post them here for posterity. The descriptions are great too. I nearly had a heart-attack with excitement!

Ceiling Project at Cranky Yellow

“This is on the ceiling at Cranky Yellow on Cherokee Street in St Louis, MO.

Cranky Yellow is an indie publishing company / artists’ collective / handmade boutique / super fun kids working to live the dream / brainchild of David Wolk, who is a nice guy.”

Fly in Cranky Yellow Store

Cranky Yellow’s storefront is full of moments like this, seemingly random things placed ever-so carefully. It’s like shopping in an art installation.”

Now how awesome is that!

Major Thanks Stellaloella! We love you!

1/2 Hour News Hour, I Didn’t Think It Could Sink This Low.

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

The first one was almost funny, the second one was kinda funny, the third one pretty much makes it obvious the kinds of people that run FoxNews (and watch it).

Katy Horan is Amazing.

I’ve been such a fan of her work since I first discovered it.

Check out this new video featuring her work.

Here is a snippet from her blog:

“It’s for a song called “Pied Piper” by a musician named Yoriyos. Basically, I did a bunch of drawings that were then animated and turned into this:”

Shared custody

Monday, October 15th, 2007

Did you know that only 8% of father’s get shared custody or full custody of their children?  That being the case…then 92% of father’s are not worthy of having their children.  I think not!

Did you know that $0.62 on the dollar is given to the judges that order child support to be paid?  Is it possible that since the majority of men make more money than their spouse it would be logical for the judges to grant custody to the mother’s because they make more money off the bread winner?

Does anyone else see a problem with this?  Where is the equal rights for the men?  Does the court enjoy splitting up families so that they can reap the rewards and fatten their own pockets?
