I’m going to die

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

A few days ago we received a hilarious fuck-x-mas card in the mail from artist Jane Linders. The best part, though, was this spot-on stencil of her spray-painted on the envelope . When I first pulled the mail from our box, I double guessed myself and thought “Nooooo, that can’t be Jane Linders”. Then I flipped the letter over and saw it was from her and I started laughing.  The likeness is incredible!

Absolutely Hall

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

The fabulous Leslie Hall was recently spotted raving about Absolutely Small plushies. Leslie is the ORIGINAL fly mid-west gem DIVA!! Absolutely-S makes the greatest little stuffed animals the world has seen. We have one (or maybe two) Absolutely-S animals left at the shop. You should come snag one now, because if the mother-gem approves, you must know it’s good!

On Facebook

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

We’re REALLY on facebook now. I mean we always sort of were… but… Alyce finally set us up with an actual store-account, which is so much better. Now you can become of “fan” of Cranky Yellow, and I don’t know, feel like you’ve actually done something… without actually doing anything. It’s great. Go try it you loser.

I think the drawing above is perfect in every way. Pulled from this site.

Opinions

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

We’re going to start posting a ton of art, music, cool things. We will also try to keep up with updates from the artists involved with CY. Alyce is going to start blogging here soon… which will help too!

I guess I’ll start the ball rolling by posting a new illustration created by Cate Anevski. It looks like it crawled right out of Japan. It is SOOO mind-meltingly cute. I had to post it here for everyone to see.

Opinions by Cate Anevski

Really Cute right!? I think so. Lots of people have been saying it should be put on a shirt, and I totally agree.

Cate has been busy (outside of quiting jobs and creating lovely drawings). She’s curating the Melancholia show which opens here on Dec. 6th (7-11pm). She also just launched a new layout for her Bee’s Knees Activities site. That site is going to be filled up with all sorts of art-releated inforamation, tutorials, advice and reviews. I’m excited about the current content, and I can’t wait to see what else she adds!

I’m ready to get some lunch.

Bunny Monsterz

Monday, November 24th, 2008

We’ve got this lovely batch of Bunny Monsterz living in the store now. They just jump around screaming and freaking out all day. We’re doing our best to keep this herd under control. We could use some help though. If you have a bunny-friendly home, you should come take on of our hands. We’re offering them at perfectly reasonable prices.

If you’re wondering: Bunny Monsterz are handmade with joy by Star Munki. You can check out her beautiful flickr set here.

OMG

From an email I wrote to my friend:

“I was so super sleepy today. I stayed up late into the night watching all of the coverage with my sister. I had been feeling sick/mucky stomach all day, and was relieved to find it flush away as soon as the news broke that Obama had won. I kept tracing my mind around a McCain/Palin administration and felt really flustered with fear. I’m SOOOOOO happy and proud to be alive now. Seeing his speech (in Chicago) afterward was so great. I’m smitten when I see how glamorous/perfect his family looks basking in the payoff of their hard work. I’ve been squealing inside all day!”

Don’t Ask Me

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Okay, so apparently this is Mod-Duck’s 80s mummy twin sister; Modeta-Duck. She decided to stop by and scare the ever-loving crap out of me by showing off her deformed child Shing-Shing. Shing-Shing was born with a birth defect that makes a fetus develop into a very large, scary, and off-colored fetus instead of a human baby, child, teen, and adult. I know I shouldn’t react in this way towards people with disabilities; but it’s hard to contain the sheer freaky-ness of Shing-Shing’s condition.

What you are seeing in this picture is Modeta-Duck and Shing-Shing’s somewhat famous trick. Modeta puts one of Shing’s tentacle-fetus-e-hands into her mouth; with that in place Shing can imitate other people’s voices and read some of what is in someone’s mind. Don’t ask me how this is possible; I left the house before they started their little traveling sideshow act. (I asked a few people how it went but most were too shaken from the experience to reply).

(In case you’re wondering, Modeta-Duck’s head was crafted by Jenny Harada, her clothes by Jacqui, and Shing-Shing came straight from the twisted mind of David Wolk himself).

Cranky Yellow is a Grumpy Old Man

Friday, July 18th, 2008

Cranky Yellow is awesome due to the complete and utter awesomeness of all the dedicated people involved! Check out this totally rad illustration/advertisement that Michelle (Lemon Squeezie) squeezed out (bad pun intended) for the website. WOW!

Cranky Yellow is Awesome

Michelle definitely went the distance! She even took it upon herself to snag some totally nasty-baby-poop-yellow shirts from the thrift store. That girl didn’t even think twice about silk screening this image on them. Oh Snap! Now I just wish everyone could have one.

(MICHELLE! EMAIL ME A PICTURE OF THE SHIRT SO I CAN POST IT HERE! FEEL FREE TO MAKE SASSY MODEL… OR YOU CAN MODEL TOO!)

Anyway…Thanks again Michelle! I’ll cook delicious buttered toast, for you, some time!

Hobgoblin Bum

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

I’m glad I get to look at him every day for a few more weeks! He’s a dirty old war veteran… and he won’t stop asking me for change.

He was created by the amazing plush-master Spooky Daddy! He is currently on display at Cranky Yellow as part of the Crammed Organisms Show (which only runs for a few more weeks)! You had better get to our place, Star Clipper Comics, APOP Records, and Subterranean Books before this show closes! It’s unbelievable!
