Why do you make clothes? Isn't it kinda hard work?

It is absolutely hard work. But not as hard, ultimately, as sitting at a computer screen all day working for someone else. I can't work for other people, I'm too easily bored.

What do you love most about being an indie clothing designer and maker?

That's a hard one, because I love literally almost everything about it. The creative work, the sewing, the web design, beading, shopping for supplies, participating in craft shows, meeting other indie businesspeople, seeing my work in stores,--even cleaning up the studio is a better day than I ever had working for the corporate world.

Do you sometimes wish you had an army of ten year old Indonesian children working for you in a football stadium-sized sweatshop?

I'd rather have bamboo shoots shoved under my toenails. Which is what I'd deserve if I did that.

What design are you most proud of?

Usually whatever I've just finished. This year I'm pretty proud of the Bangle Clutch, even though it broke my serger. It's a slim zippered purse made from sparkly car seat vinyl that hangs from your arm from a real bracelet.

What design would you like to see used as kindling for burning witches?

I would never burn a witch. I prefer to burn the cast of Seventh Heaven.

Do you have any supernatural powers?

I am supernaturally sarcastic. Also I can order a mean martini.

Would you consider yourself to be a strong, independent woman? A Feminist?

Abso-fucking-lutely. Why be anything else?

Which is the stronger sex: Men or Women?

It depends on the person. Although I prefer to see strength in terms of what you do with what you're born with. I can say women have a harder road to travel than most heterosexual white men, so if you spend time fighting that you'll grow as a person automatically. But as a group it's too hard to gauge.

What is your ultimate goal in this apparel crafting endeavor?

To do what I want with my life, and have something of myself left here when I'm gone.

What the most precious article of clothing (or jewelry) that you own? (I am prohibiting the following answers: Wedding bands, wedding dresses, anything related to children, husbands, or Irish mythology)

A fully crystal beaded 1950's 3/4 sleeve top that I happened to find in a thrift store in rural missouri.

Do you think you can take the following people in a fight (answer separately for each one):

Mike Tyson - nope, he's batshit loony besides being really fucking strong. Also, nothing says "poor impulse control" like facial tattooes.

Martha Stuart - I think I'd win eventually, but she'd fight dirty. She probably has a shank hidden on her at all times, possibly made by Tiffany.

Hillary Clinton - We could have a suit fight. Hers are more expensive, but mine are way cooler.

Jesse Ventura - Good god, is he even still alive?

Michael Myers - As long as I wasn't wearing heels and panties and running through the woods. Those girls never make it.

Ghengis Khan - Probably the stink would knock me out alone.

How many fights have you won? Lost? What some memorable fightin' you've done?

I haven't done as much fighting as you'd think. I've only lost one, to a girl when I was 17. Otherwise I've mainly assaulted men who failed to learn to keep their hands to themselves. Those I won.

What's the horrible thing about you?

I'm a wickedly sarcastic person.

What's the most delightful thing about you?

I'm a wickedly sarcastic person.

Do you have children?

Yep. One brown haired miniature tornado named Eddie.

What values do you hope will pass on to them? (What values do you hope won't be ruined by television, public schools, other people, and college?).

To think for himself, respectfully question authority, and not to let other people tell him he can't do what he wants.

What song do you know the most words to?

I'm a singer, so a lot of them.

Do you believe in life after love, after love, after love?

I believe in life independent of love, but not truly without it. However, I fervently believe you shouldn't settle for someone less than yourself.

What do you wish you knew more about?

Childrearing, indian cooking, kung fu, and swing dancing.

Who have you most relied upon in your life? Who could you simply not do without?

I've relied mainly on myself from a very young age. However, my grandmother was instrumental in making me who I am. Unfortunately, she passed away last year, so I'm learning to do without her. Now I probably couldn't do without my husband, my son, my really good friends, and Social Distortion.

How would you describe your overall clothing design style?

Pirate hooker librarian.

What clothing designer do you most admire?

I think most of them are shite. That said, I do like some elements of Jean Paul Gaultier. Mostly because his influences are very similar to mine. Other than that, I'm much more likely to be inspired by old movies, old advertising, stylish people on the street, or tattoo magazines.

Where do you get most of your clothes?

I make most of my own clothes. I get shoes, jeans, and coats mainly from Target. I find the odd piece online, and I have some wonderful vintage pieces to throw in the mix from time to time.

Anything else important we should know about? Anything you just gotta say to the entire world (of three people that go to this site)?

Don't wear Crocs. Just don't. It's better for everybody.
