MON. MAY 15
@ CBGB | 9pm | 21+
-Phantom Head (Kansas City, MO)
Phantom Head returns to St. Louis in support of its new self-titled LP, which gives a good summation of the dark, swampy punk the band has become known for. Get negative with Spirits, the new outfit by Luc Michalski (of Black Panties, Sweat and other assorted projects).
THU. MAY 18
DROOLPUSSY by pussy foot
@ Foam | 9pm | $5 | all ages
-Pussy Foot (Chicago, IL)
-Carte de Visite
Squeezed somewhere between noise rock and shoegaze, Pussy Foot occupies a space where strong melodic leads are as likely as static-laden howls. The band’s pedigree is sound, what with its split with Chicago’s equally bizarre Drool (hence the EP name DROOLPUSSY). Opening acts include a softer side of St. Louis’ seedy underbelly.
@ The Sinkhole | 8pm | $5 | all ages
-Negra (Nashville, TN)
An experimental grunge outfit a la southern California in the early ’90s, Negra loads a heavy, rhythmic canon with angular ammo. Its songs can be slower in tempo, but the band mostly rushes through a feedback-laded squalor with an authoritative vocal style that sits right atop the noise.
FRI. MAY 19
@ Kismet | 9pm | $5 | all ages
-Watcher (Nashville, TN)
With its sneering, relentless take on post-hardcore, Nashville’s Watcher enacts a set of aggressive and harrowing songs. Local support includes the equally frantic Blight Future (with recently added drummer Kaleb Kirby in tow) and Bald, featuring members of Persh.
SAT. MAY 20
@ 3500 Lemp | 9pm | $5 | all ages
-Attic Ted (TX)
By dressing up gangly pop songs with a carnival-esque aesthetic, Attic Ted comes across as equal parts unsettling and danceable. The Texas-based performance artist makes use of loops, crunchy guitar and an old Hammond organ to build full compositions made up of layers that peel back all on their own.
